Free Film & Holiday Cheer – Dec 19 at Redwood Playhouse

In a time of rising loneliness, disconnection, and division, this is the story of how nature – and those who teach with it – are helping us find our way back to each other. Join FOLC for a free evening of film and camaraderie, as we celebrate environmental education (and the holidays!) on Friday, December 19 at the Redwood Playhouse in Garberville.

In Our Nature is a 60-minute documentary exploring how nature-based education can help us reconnect in a time of rising loneliness, political division, and environmental uncertainty. Through three powerful stories – from a flower farm on Chicago’s South Side, to a forest school in rural Kentucky, to a healing-in-nature program for military families in San Antonio – the film reveals how connection to the natural world can bridge divides, strengthen communities, and support youth mental health. Both urgent and hopeful, In Our Nature shows why access to nature isn’t a luxury, but essential to what it means to be human.

Doors open at 5:30pm with a FOLC open-house and opportunity to learn about our environmental education programs and the incentives we offer to get youth outside and experiencing nature! Live acoustic music with The Cronies and warm winter beverages will add to the holiday cheer, and Oakfire Pizza – a wood-fired pizza vendor from Ferndale – will compliment the evening with delicious eats out front. FOLC merchandise will also be available, making this a great place to pick up a gift for a nature lover in your life.
