Hikes, Lectures & More
Summer Hike Series
Hikes, lectures, and special events are a fun way for the whole family to learn about and explore the Lost Coast area.
Our Summer Hike Series runs May through September and features no less than 5 expert-led hikes to destinations throughout the King Range and larger Lost Coast region. Hike topics have included tide pools, native plants, birding, geology, photography, history and more – increasingly with Spanish translation. FOLC also regularly partners with Sanctuary Forest & Mattole Restoration Council via the King Range Alliance in presenting this series.
Lost Coast Lectures
Lost Coast Lectures is a seasonal lecture series, presented in partnership with BLM King Range & the King Range Alliance. Generally presented virtually, via Zoom, with occasional in-person offerings, lectures are often presented as a series, with 2-3 lectures built around a theme.
A sample of recent themes includes lighthouses, geology, seabirds, marine mammals, fire, and the conserved lands and waters of the Lost Coast. Recordings of past lectures are available below.
Workshops & Special Events
Workshops & Special Events are also important for FOLC’s interpretive mission. Recent offerings like Art in the Garden, Exploring the Night Sky, Building Cultural Items, the King Range Fire Campout, and a 3-day pole building workshop, showcase the diversity of these events – all of which were held at the Lost Coast Education Center or other King Range destinations.
FOLC also occasionally hosts events at local venues like Gyppo Ale Mill and the Shelter Cove Community Clubhouse, plus annually presents the exclusive Humboldt County showing of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival at the Arcata Theatre Lounge. Check our calendar link below for a complete listing of upcoming events.
