In Cheryl Lisin’s regular column, Plant Notes, she covers the many plants that have beautiful displays of fall foliage including vine maple, tarweed, poison oak and CA fuchsia as well as noting the seasonal fall berries from plants like madrone, Oregon grape, toyon, and coffeeberry that are so enjoyed by birds, small mammals, and other wildlife. 

Miss Taylor’s article, “Everyone Can Do Science,” features fun activities, crafts, and mini lessons for naturalists and nature lovers of all ages. In this edition, she focuses on the fantastical world of fungus and introduces an art prompt to encourage and inspire the reader’s imagination as she challenges them to create drawings, paintings, or clay models of a mushroom or fungus based on their funky common names and challenges them to ponder how it might have earned that name by creating origin stories or lore.
