Spring Lecture Series- Kinematics of the Mendocino Triple Junction

March 22, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Local geology, soils ecology and related topics will be the feature of FOLC’s Spring Lecture Series.  Presented via Zoom, the series kicks off Wednesday, March 22nd from 6p.m. to 7p.m, and will feature Robert C. McPherson, of Cal Poly Humboldt’s Geology Department.  In his talk, Kinematics of the Mendocino Triple Junction, Bob will discuss how the movement of plates on the surface of the earth affects our lives, and is responsible for the beautiful geomorphology of the King Range and the rugged Lost Coast. Topics will include our most common earthquake hazard, intraplate gorda events, and less-frequent intraplate North American events, including those that occurred on August 17, 1991 and April 26, 1992. A hypothesis on the candelabra trees of Whale Gulch will also be part of this presentation, plus a Q&A at the end.
