Mini-Mushroom Fair @ Lost Coast Nature Center

February 7 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join FOLC & BLM King Range for a mid-winter mini-mushroom fair at the Lost Coast Nature Center in Whitethorn on Saturday, February 7. Free and open to the public from 12pm to 4pm, attendees will enjoy a display of recently foraged local fungi, learn from Lost Coast Mike Paquette about our bounty of local mushrooms and get a hands-on demonstration in how to prepare mushroom slides to view them under microscopes, and partake in varied mushroom-themed activities – including sketching and creating mushroom-inspired art with Venessa Kay & Darcie Maassen, plus other fun activities for kids and families. So bundle up (it’s cold in Whitethorn in winter!) and come join us at the Lost Coast Nature Center and Native Plant Garden for a day of mycelium madness as we celebrate all things mushrooms!

Schedule of activities:
Noon- event opens
12:15pm – 1:15- mushroom talk, slide preparation, and microscope feature w/ Lost Coast Mike
1:30pm – 3:00- mushroom art workshop with Venessa Kay & Darcie Maassen
Ongoing activities: recently foraged mushroom display, microscope viewing, kid’s activities, garden tours and mushroom “scavenger” hunt with close-focus binoculars, plus hot drinks and desserts for donation, FOLC merch, and native plants available for sale
4pm- event ends

Want to get started early? A morning mushroom hunt with Lost Coast Mike will kick things off in the field before the main event begins. Space for the morning outing is very limited and advance registration is required. Email [email protected] to RSVP or for more information, including meet-up details and hike location.
