DESCRIPTION:Join Miss Taylor\, FOLC’s Environmental Education Coordinator\, at the Lost Coast Education Center in Whitethorn for a Family Activity Day!  Open from 10:30am to 1:30pm\, the event will feature a variety of fun and educational natural science activities for the whole family.  Rotating activities from our Garden Curriculum will be offered throughout the event and attendees can filter in and out as they please.  This is the second edition of our renewed Family Activity Day series\, so be sure to keep an eye out for more FADs in the fall too…

DESCRIPTION:Tap into your creativity with two free Garden Illustration Workshops led by Jenna Catsos\, the illustrator behind Pen+Pine.  The original workshop\, from 10 to noon on Sunday\, June 2 filled quickly\, so a second workshop was just added from 1 to 3pm!!! \nDuring these workshops at the Lost Coast Education Center in Whitethorn\, Jenna will teach techniques for drawing with micron pen and colored pencils. She will cover: basic drawing techniques; how to use different lines and textures to achieve the look you are going for; tips for drawing plants on-site in the garden; and how to use composition and framing to elevate your drawing. We will also talk about finding inspiration in our daily lives and establishing a creative practice. \nJenna will provide micron pens\, paper\, and colored pencils. Participants are encouraged to bring a sketchbook if they have one. \nJenna is a Eureka-based illustrator and garden enthusiast. She has been drawing under the moniker Pen+Pen for almost ten years. Pen+Pine is the marriage of her interests in visual art\, education\, and the natural world. DESCRIPTION:Experience the candelabra redwood trees and coastal vistas of the Peter Douglas Trail on Saturday\, June 22 with your hosts\, Sanctuary Forest and Friends of the Lost Coast. Located near Usal Campground on BLM’s soon-to-be acquired Lost Coast Redwoods property\, this acquisition adds 7.3 miles of coastline and nearly 3300 forested acres to the conserved public lands of the Lost Coast. The hike is approximately 2 miles in length and highlights the unique candelabra trees\, plus discussion of the Lost Coast Redwoods project.
