SUMMARY:Lost Coast Trail Stewards Workday - Pacific Rim Loop
DESCRIPTION:Join FOLC & BLM on Sunday\, May 5\, from 10am to 2pm\, for a Lost Coast Trail Stewards workday in the King Range.  Work will consist of brushing\, raking\, tree removal\, and trail tread enhancement on the loop portion of the Pacific Rim Trail.  Meet 9:50am at the Pacific Rim Trailhead on Shelter Cove Rd\, located approximately 1/10mi east of the Chemise Mountain Rd junction. $10/hr youth stipends are available to ages 12-17\, with no experience necessary. DESCRIPTION:Spring is a perfect time for planting\, so come stock up on native plants for your garden at Friends of the Lost Coast’s special Mother’s Day Celebration & Native Plant Sale on Sunday\, May 12 from 10a.m. to 3p.m.\, weather permitting.  The nursery has a wide selection of flowering native annuals\, perennials\, shrubs\, trees and grasses available for donation. Professional landscape designer and native plant expert\, Cheryl Lisin\, will be on hand to consult about your planting needs. Activities throughout the day include fun stuff for kids and families with FOLC’s Environmental Education Coordinator\, Taylor Faye Benedict. Refreshments\, FOLC merchandise\, garden tours\, and free coloring books will also be offered\, plus live music with Dylan Weber.  Pack your own picnic lunch too! \nCome discover the Lost Coast Education Center and celebrate spring (and Mother’s Day!) with native plants\, while supporting the environmental education & stewardship programs of Friends of the Lost Coast. Native plants are beautiful\, resilient and many are drought tolerant\, perfect for any garden\, so come stock up at Friends of the Lost Coast’s Mother’s Celebration & Native Plant Sale. SUMMARY:King Range Fire Campout
DESCRIPTION:Exploring fuels reduction and fire as a natural element in our ecosystem\, on the weekend of May 18 & 19 Friends of the Lost Coast & BLM King Range are pleased to host the King Range Fire Campout in King Range National Conservation Area. \nBased out of the Bureau of Land Management’s Tolkan Campground on King Peak Rd\, the weekend will include a mix of short walks\, interpretive talks\, and field outings to various remote destinations in the King Range\, plus a potluck on Saturday evening.\n\nOn Saturday\, Bureau of Land Management staff will share their recent fuels reduction work on Paradise Ridge Road amid dramatic views and varied forest types. On Sunday\, we’ll hike the Buck Creek Trail to look at the aftermath of the 2015 Horse fire in King Range Wilderness. We’ll see natural fire recovery in the wilderness against magnificent views of the coast.\n\nCamping at Tolkan includes developed sites with fire rings\, picnic tables\, and vault toilets. Water is not provided; bring your own water for the weekend. Shared group campsites are free and private campsites\, if available\, are $15 per night.\n\nNon-camping locals are welcome to join for the daily outings and Saturday potluck. There is no charge to participate. Enrollment is limited\, however\, and advance registration is required for all events.  If you would like to attend\, please contact Susan Nolan snolan@humboldt1.com with the number in your party and events you plan to attend/nights you plan to camp.  This event is sponsored in part by the Environmental Protection Information Center.
