SUMMARY:Trailhead Hosts - Black Sands Beach
DESCRIPTION:Friends of the Lost Coast’s Trailhead Hosts program organizes volunteers to assist BLM with engaging visitors at Black Sands Beach in Shelter Cove on the weekends of highest summer usage – Memorial Day\, July 4th and Labor Day. Our Trailhead Hosts answer questions and share information about the King Range\, park rules/regulations\, beach safety\, and Leave No Trace principles.  Email justin@lostcoast.org for more information or to volunteer.  This Labor Day Weekend event runs 4 days\, September 1-4 and will be held at the Black Sands Beach trailhead\, 856 Beach Rd in Shelter Cove.

DESCRIPTION:National Public Lands Day will be celebrated over two weekends in the King Range this year! Kicking things off on Saturday\, September 16 from 10a.m. to 2p.m.\, Friends of the Lost Coast\, BLM King Range and Redwood Coast Mountain Biking Association invite all for workday on the Paradise Royale Mountain Bike Trail. Work will consist of trail clearing and terrain park maintenance. Meet 9:45a.m. at Tolkan Campground to register. Volunteers receive a free t-shirt\, public lands pass\, and BBQ lunch\, plus camping if needed. $10/hr stipends are available to youth\, ages 12-17. DESCRIPTION:Friends of the Lost Coast and BLM King Range invite all for a day of service and fun on National Public Lands Day\, Saturday\, September 23. Meet 10 a.m. at Mal Coombs Park in Shelter Cove\, where we’ll break into groups for different projects – including an Adopt A Beach cleanup in celebration of CA Coastal Cleanup Day! The day will culminate back at Mal Coombs Park with lunch at 1:15 p.m. Volunteers will receive a National Public Lands Day t-shirt\, free public lands pass\, and lunch from Cafe Dulce. National Public Lands Day is the largest volunteer stewardship event of the year\, with service projects happening throughout the U.S. – and combining efforts with CA Coastal Cleanup Day will make it even bigger this year!
