SUMMARY:Geologic Ruminations of the Lost Coast Hike w/ Sam Flanagan
DESCRIPTION:Join FOLC and Sanctuary Forest on Saturday\, July 8 for the first of two summer geology hikes with BLM Geologist\, Sam Flanagan. We’ll walk\, wander and talk about the geologic processes shaping the Lost Coast\, an exciting geologic destination where the earth’s plates converge to create a dynamic landscape that is ever-evolving. Our lives occupy but a few frames of this action-packed movie. We’ll wave our arms about the rocks\, faults and landscapes at our feet and tie it all together in the story of this special piece of coastline.  This is an easy to moderate hike with much of the hike along the soft sands of Black Sands Beach.  We’ll meet 10am at the Black Sands Beach parking area. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Email info@lostcoast.org for details or to RSVP.

SUMMARY:King Peak Moonlight Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join FOLC on Monday\, July 31 for a pre-full moon hike to King Peak\, highest point in King Range National Conservation Area and one of the tallest coastal peaks in the Lower 48 States.  Meet at the BLM office in Whitethorn at 3:30pm to caravan to Lightning Trailhead (4WD recommended).  We will then summit the peak (4088 ft)\, enjoy sunset\, and start our journey back under the light of the rising moon.  This 4.8 mile round trip hike includes nearly 2000 ft of elevation gain and will be strenuous for some.  Returning in the moonlight presents additional risks\, a factor that should be considered before signing up.  Space is limited for this popular hike and pre-registration is required.  Email justin@lostcoast.org for more info or to RSVP.
