SUMMARY:Marine Life of the Lost Coast Lecture Series - Part 2 w/ Dr. Dawn Goley
DESCRIPTION:Marine Life of the Lost Coast\, a two part lecture series via Zoom\, featuring experts in the fields of Zoology and the Biological Sciences is being presented by Friends of the Lost Coast in partnership with the BLM King Range on February 22 and March 1. The two 60-minute lectures – with a Q&A at the end of each presentation – are from 6 to 7p.m. The first lecture\, on February 22\, is titled Fear & Corrosion on the Lost Coast: Coastal Ecosystems & Climate Change in Northern CA\, with Dr. Paul Bourdeau\, HSU Professor of Biological Sciences. The second lecture\, on March 1\, is titled Marine Mammals of the North Coast – What we are Learning about Elephant Seals\, Gray Whales\, and Stranded Marine Mammals\, presented by Dr. Dawn Goley\, HSU Zoology Professor and Director of the Marine Mammal Education & Research Program. \nTuesday\, March 1: Dr. Dawn Goley – HSU Professor of Zoology & Director of the Marine Mammal Education & Research Program \nMarine Mammals of the North Coast – What we are learning about Elephant Seals\, Gray Whales and Stranded Marine Mammals \nDr. Goley and her students at HSU have been studying marine mammals in northern California for over 25 years.  In this seminar\, Dr. Goley will summarize what we have learned about living and stranded marine mammals through her collaborative work with students\, colleagues\, the BLM\, KRNCA and local communities along the northern California coast.  Please join us to hear more about her most recent research with the King Range elephant seals\, gray whales and marine mammal strandings\, plus how you can be involved in helping us understand our local marine mammals. \nClick HERE for the recording

DESCRIPTION:Friends of the Lost Coast\, Sanctuary Forest and CA State Parks are teaming up again this year on Saturday\, March 5 from 10am-1pm to remove French broom in the Sinkyone Wilderness State Park. Tools and gloves will be provided. Please bring water and a snack if needed and wear sturdy shoes and layers. SUMMARY:Lost Coast Trail Stewards Work Day - Pacific Rim Trail
DESCRIPTION:Local trail enthusiasts are invited to join Friends of the Lost Coast for a trail stewards workday on Pacific Rim Trail in the King Range on Sunday\, March 13 from 10a.m. to 2p.m.\, weather permitting. This workday will focus on brush clearing/debris removal along the Pacific Rim loop trail\, along with other maintenance needs. The Lost Coast Trail Stewards crew will meet at Pacific Rim Trailhead on Shelter Cove Rd at 10a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their own snacks\, water\, and gloves\, plus dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Tools are provided.  This is a great opportunity to meet other trail enthusiasts while also helping maintain/enhance our local trails and assist BLM staff with a backlog of trail maintenance projects.
