DESCRIPTION:The 25th anniversary of the National Conservation Lands will be celebrated with stewardship and an opportunity for the community to help in commemorating our national monuments at a rescheduled Black Sands Beach brick-laying and Shelter Cove work party on Sunday\, April 6.  Hosted by Friends of the Lost Coast and BLM King Range\, volunteers are invited to lend a hand between 10a.m. and 1p.m. to tend the native plant gardens at the site and lay new brick pavers commemorating recent additions to our National Conservation Lands.  A limited number of stipends are available for ages 10-17.  Meet at the Black Sands Beach parking area\, 856 Beach Road in Shelter Cove.  Tools and gloves are provided – plus free swag for volunteers!  To RSVP or register a youth\, email justin@lostcoast.org.

Lost Coast Mike\, a local fungi enthusiast working to catalogue mushrooms and fungal species of the Lost Coast\, will guide us on a field outing (location TBD)\, followed by a “lab” session at the Lost Coast Education Center where participants will learn about DNA analysis and use microscopes to view collected samples up close. This is a great opportunity to learn about late-season species\, ethical foraging\, and how you can assist with this cataloguing effort in iNaturalist. 10am to 2pm. SUMMARY:Creating Pollinator Sanctuaries Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 8\, Friends of the Lost Coast will host a free workshop on creating pollinator sanctuaries with native plants. Restoration ecologist and permaculture designer Kyle Keegan will teach participants how to use the quick and easy method of “sheet mulching” to convert yard\, orchard and garden areas into sanctuaries for native pollinators. This workshop will also discuss plant varieties used to attract and support a diverse array of native species\, including butterflies\, bees\, and hummingbirds. Participants will be able to see a variety of pollinator sanctuaries already established and will also see a small native plant nursery in action. \nThis workshop will take place at the Fool’s Farm in Salmon Creek\, from 10am to 2pm. Space is limited to 15 participants\, with advance registration required. Carpooling is encouraged and directions\, plus caravan/carpool options\, will be shared with registrants prior to the event. DESCRIPTION:Join BLM King Range and Friends of the Lost Coast on Sunday\, January 5 for the first Lost Coast Trail Stewards workday of the new year!  This extended 6-hour workday will be on the upper Pacific Rim Trail\, accessed from an unmarked trailhead on Paradise Ridge Rd.  Work will consist of brushing\, raking\, tree removal\, and trail tread enhancement.  The group will meet at 8:50am at the intersection of Shelter Cove Rd and Paradise Ridge Rd\, with return to this location at 3pm.  All interested participants are required to RSVP\, with carpooling available for those who need it.  Please note that Paradise Ridge Rd requires a 4WD vehicle.  A limited number of $10/hr stipends are available to local youth\, ages 12-17\, with no experience needed.  For more information on youth stipends and to RSVP for the workday\, email justin@lostcoast.org. \n

DESCRIPTION:Friends of the Lost Coast and BLM King Range invite all for a day of service and fun on National Public Lands Day\, which we will be celebrating on Saturday\, October 5th in the King Range this year.  We’ll meet at 9:45 a.m. at Tolkan Campground on King Peak Rd.\, and work will focus on trail maintenance on the Paradise Royale Trail\, plus other projects to help prepare for a mountain bike race that is happening at the site later in the month.  The day will culminate with lunch at 1:30p.m and volunteers will also receive a National Public Lands Day t-shirt and free public lands pass.  National Public Lands Day is the largest volunteer stewardship event of the year\, with service projects happening throughout the U.S. !  A limited number of $10/hr stipends are available to youth\, ages 10-17.  Email justin@lostcoast.org for general event info or to register for a youth stipend.
