DESCRIPTION:Friends of the Lost Coast and BLM King Range invite all for a day of service and fun on National Public Lands Day\, which we will be celebrating on Saturday\, October 5th in the King Range this year.  We’ll meet at 9:45 a.m. at Tolkan Campground on King Peak Rd.\, and work will focus on trail maintenance on the Paradise Royale Trail\, plus other projects to help prepare for a mountain bike race that is happening at the site later in the month.  The day will culminate with lunch at 1:30p.m and volunteers will also receive a National Public Lands Day t-shirt and free public lands pass.  National Public Lands Day is the largest volunteer stewardship event of the year\, with service projects happening throughout the U.S. !  A limited number of $10/hr stipends are available to youth\, ages 10-17.  Email justin@lostcoast.org for general event info or to register for a youth stipend.

DESCRIPTION:The basics of pole-style building using sustainably-harvested log poles will be covered in a free 3-day workshop hosted by Friends of the Lost Coast and BLM King Range at the Lost Coast Education Center in Whitethorn on September 20-22. Running 9am to 4pm all three days\, with 3-day commitment strongly encouraged\, the workshop will feature the master pole builders of Polecraft Solutions to create a 20×20 shade structure that will expand the native plant nursery at the site. Our Trailhead Hosts answer questions and share information about the King Range\, beach safety\, park rules/regulations\, and Leave No Trace principles. This Memorial Day Weekend event runs 4 days\, August 30 – September 2 and will be held at the Black Sands Beach trailhead\, located at 856 Beach Rd in Shelter Cove. DESCRIPTION:Beauty of the Lost Coast Hike with John Jennings in Shelter Cove August 24 \nJoin Sanctuary Forest and FOLC on Saturday\, August 24 for the Beauty of the Lost Coast Hike\, led by retired CA State Park Ranger\, John Jennings. Normally held in Sinkyone Wilderness State Park (SWSP)\, this year’s hike will take place in Shelter Cove\, due to a planned closure of Needle Rock Rd in SWSP. \nThe history of Shelter Cove and Bear Harbor will be discussed as well as tidepools\, sea birds\, mammals\, geology\, ocean rise\, King Range info and more\, with Spanish translation provided! Meet 10am at Mal Coombs Park.  Be sure to bring water and a snack – but no dogs please.  This hike is free of charge\, with donations gladly accepted to support the sponsoring organizations. SUMMARY:King Peak Moonlight Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join FOLC & BLM King Range on Sunday\, August 18 for a pre-full moon hike to King Peak\, highest point in King Range National Conservation Area and one of the tallest coastal peaks in the Lower 48 States.  Meet at the BLM office in Whitethorn at 3:30pm to caravan to Lightning Trailhead (4WD recommended).  We will then summit the peak (4088 ft)\, enjoy sunset\, and start our journey back under the light of the rising moon.  This 4.8 mile round trip hike includes nearly 2000 ft of elevation gain and will be strenuous for some.  Returning in the moonlight presents additional risks\, a factor that should be considered before signing up.  Space is limited for this popular hike and pre-registration is required.  Email info@lostcoast.org for more info or to RSVP.
